Urgent US Secretary of State warns of Russian invasion of Ukraine

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Friday that Russia is massing more troops on its border with Ukraine, warning of the possibility of an "invasion at any time".

"Simply put, we are still seeing worrying signs of Russian escalation," he said after meeting his counterparts in the Australian, Indian and Japanese "Security Dialogue Quartet" coalition.

“We are in a situation where an invasion could start at any time, and to be clear, that includes the Olympics,” he added, dismissing speculation that Moscow would wait until after the Beijing Olympics to avoid dragging its ally China into the crisis. . .

Blinken stressed that the United States "prefers to resolve differences" with Russia "diplomatically", but "at the same time, we have been very clear about strengthening deterrence and defense and have made clear to Russia that if it chooses the path of further aggression, it will face dire consequences."

US President Joe Biden has urged all US citizens in Ukraine to leave immediately.
